What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a structured, entry-level employment opportunity that combines paid work with nationally recognised training – allowing you to earn while you learn. It’s a great way to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting while completing a qualification that supports your long-term career goals.

Traineeships are ideal for:

  • School leavers who want to start their career straight after Year 10 or Year 12
  • Career starters or career changers looking for real-world experience without the cost of university or unpaid internships
  • People seeking a stepping stone into industries like business, finance, customer service, retail, government, healthcare, and more

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a nationally recognised pathway that allows you to build a skilled trade career by combining paid, hands-on work experience with formal technical training. It’s the ideal choice for those who prefer to learn by doing, want to gain a qualification without student debt, and are interested in becoming a certified tradesperson.
As an apprentice, you’ll work full-time with a qualified tradesperson who mentors you on the job. At the same time, you’ll complete nationally recognised training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), usually at a TAFE or accredited private provider. Training typically leads to a Certificate III qualification, and the program generally runs over 3 to 4 years, depending on the trade.

You’ll gain:

  • A nationally recognised trade qualification (e.g. Cert III in Automotive, Electrical, Carpentry, etc.)
